An Engineering Development Project is a project aimed at developing a product with a high technical content, requiring the coordinated work of an engineering team.
Joint Definition Phase (JDP)
A Joint Definition Phase is the phase of an engineering development program during which the various organisations involved perform joint studies to identify the overall optimal requirements allocation (functional, envelope, etc.). This phase takes place before the actual Preliminary Design Phase can start; sometimes the JDP is considered to be part of the preliminary design and is performed at the beginning of this phase.
